Deacons are ordained by the laying on of hands, a tradition handed down from the Apostles, so that through sacramental grace they may effectively fulfill their ministry.
Deacons are to: administer Baptism solemnly; protect and distribute the Eucharist; assist at and bless marriages in the name of the Church; bring Viaticum to the dying; read the sacred Scriptures to the faithful; instruct and exhort the people; preside over the prayer and worship of the faithful; administer sacramentals; officiate at funeral and burial rites; and to be dedicated to duties of charity and administration. Relying on the help of the Lord God and our Savior Jesus Christ, we choose these, our brothers, for the Order of Diaconate.
